FEAR 2: Project Origin Review (PC)
Fear 2 is a new horror first person shooter, which lives up to the horror part easily! Because its bloody scary indeed! The game is scary from its frightening atmosphere and build up just like in the movies!
If you didn’t play the first fear then here’s a quick low down of what’s going on. Armacham Technology is building an army of telepathically controlled clones. Alma is a 8-year-old psychic who was forced into a coma, trapped in a vault, impregnated and then abandoned is still alive and pissed.
You play as Sgt. Michael Becket who is part of an elite squad who have been sent to arrest the president of Armacham Technology.
As you play through the game you find yourself jumping at shadows and literally waiting for the next scare which could be at any moment, and at varied intervals (the longest waits are the worst!).
You gain the ability to slow down time as Becket after an operation to save your life. Which is kinda cool at first but it’s something we see a lot in games these days and I think in a way it does spoil the game as it makes taking down enemy’s very easy. It does have a time limit but it quickly regenerates in what seems like no time at all.
You don’t just fight against clone soldiers, there’s also what I can only describe as zombie style men who crawl about on all fours. These are quite difficult to kill as they move about so quickly. I liked the fact that they can jump on top of you and you can punch or kick them off!
During the game you get to use a mechanized power suit which is awesome with 2 machine guns and rocket launchers. You feel invincible moving through the streets and owning the clone soldiers!
The multiplayer mode has 6 different game types:
- Deathmatch
- Team Deathmatch
- Blitz is where teams capture and defend canisters of goo.
- Control is basically 3 control points with 2 teams try to control them.
- Armoured front is like control but with the power-suit involved!
- Failsafe is a Counter-Strike style bomb defusal game.
